Isolation will open at 8:30AM and close at 9:30AM, climbing will begin at 10:00AM. Please be sure to arrive before isolation closes.

The Junior Indoor Bouldering Series (JIBS) Championship kicked off the Youth Bouldering Series (YBS), presented by Marmot. Sound confusing?  It’s not as confusing as it sounds. The annual JIBS Championship was held at the Philadelphia Rock Gym on March 10^th drawing in over 120 junior participants from neighboring states.  It played host to the inaugural YBS qualifying event. The Youth Bouldering Series (YBS) is a new junior competition series that emphases camaraderie and sportsmanship in competition. In addition to awarding prizes to the top finalists, the YBS awards good sportsmanship and the most enthusiastic competitors during the event. 

During the JIBS/YBS event, the boys and girls competed in separate heats in a redpoint-format qualifier leading up to the onsight final.

During finals, kids faced four problems separated by four minute rest periods. These problems featured gymnastic 360 spins and toe hooking, core-tasking problems that tested the competitor’s as the fatigue from the preliminary round set in.  

Participants were showered in prizes from Marmot, Mad Rock, New England Ropes and Vertical Girl. Tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, crash pads shoes and ropes were among some of the prize packages awarding during the event.  These prizes were among the $30,000 in prizes being given away during the Youth Bouldering Series.

Participants in the Youth Bouldering Series are able to qualify for the final event in two ways. Participants can place in the top ten in any YBS qualifying event, or accumulate points from the three qualifying events leading to the final. A percentage of each field within age category will qualify for the Youth Bouldering Series finals.
